How to Find a Surgeon

The most capable, skilled, knowledgeable and ethical surgeons we know are the active members and fellows of this society.

Click on the topics - Members and Fellows  - to find those qualified surgeons near you.

All of the Associate Fellows and Fellows , who are active, are also listed in the  Members  section.

Finding the best surgeon for your particular needs is very much like shopping for other things and services. Careful shopping is the key.

The best referral sources are your friends and acquaintances who have had the surgery done, and who care enough about you to share with you their experiences and findings. Sometimes we find a good friend who has searched for some time, been to several doctors, or knows several other ladies who have shared with her their experiences.

Let us sympathize with the problem. Just going to see one doctor, you cannot tell by looking at him/her or the office what kind of work they do.

Seeing before and after pictures is a big help.

But most helpful is saying hello to the others in the waiting room and asking about their knowledge and experiences. Some may be very happy with super excellent results, and others may be filled with many problems and complaints. Some may know many other persons who have been to the doctor and who are pleased with their treatment.

The good surgeon is supposed to solve problems and not create them. So if all the patients you encounter are very happy, look good in their befores and afters and will share them with you, then you can rightfully feel good about that doctor.

If you are fortunate enough to have a close friend or relative who can accompany you, this can be very helpful as well.

The good doctor should convey to you a sincere concern and caring for your welfare and for you as an individual person. You do not want to feel rushed in and out, or treated like a number. The doctor will be knowledgeable and intelligent but above all will be kind and considerate.
